What is a Transistor?
Transistor is a three terminal device used in circuits for two major reasons namely Switching and Amplification. The two main classification of transistor are NPN and PNP based on its construction.
The transistor has three terminals corresponding to three sections with different doping. The three terminals are Collector, base and emitter. For NPN type the sections are doped with N type, P type and N type corresponding to collector, base and emitter.
Above is the construction of a NPN transistor. The arrow indicates the direction of electron flow P type to N type.
